TAKEX_SWD55

Single-Hole Punch Hole Detection Sensor

  • The SWD55 detects a single punch hole at welded joints on continuously moving steel coils.
  • It detects holes down to Φ8 mm across a 300 mm effective width, offers over 30× operating margin, and uses the SWD55B controller with relay and NPN outputs.
  • Brand TAKEX Takenaka Engineering Co., Ltd.
Features
  • Φ8 mm single-hole detection: Designed specifically to detect a single punch hole at the welded section of a steel coil, with a minimum detectable hole diameter of Φ8 mm.
  • 300 mm effective detection width: The transmitter and receiver create a 300 mm-wide detection area for sensing punch holes as steel strip continuously passes through the system.
  • Over 30× operating margin: The transmitter and receiver circuits provide more than 30 times the operating-level margin, helping maintain detection when the lenses are slightly contaminated.
  • Easy optical-axis alignment: Dedicated alignment devices are built into the transmitter and receiver, with indicators illuminating when the optical axis is correctly aligned.
  • Relay and NPN outputs: The SWD55B controller provides both relay and NPN open-collector outputs with an adjustable 0.1–1 second one-shot output.

Specification notes

  • The SWD55 is dedicated to single-hole detection and detects punch holes down to Φ8 mm. For differentiation between single and double holes, use the SWD60 Series.
  • The transmitter and receiver must be installed 400–1000 mm apart, with at least 200 mm between the steel coil and each sensing unit.
  • SWD55L and SWD55R are rated IP66, while the SWD55B controller is IP40 when installed with its case. Air-purge or water-cooling protection can be added when required by the installation environment.
FAQ

Q1: What is the SWD55?
A: The SWD55 is a single-hole punch hole detection sensor used to identify welded sections of continuously moving steel coils by detecting a punch hole provided at the weld.

Q2: What is the minimum detectable hole size?
A: The SWD55 detects punch holes with a diameter of Φ8 mm or larger.

Q3: Can the SWD55 distinguish between one and two holes?
A: No. The SWD55 is dedicated to single-hole detection. The SWD60 Series should be used when single- and double-hole differentiation is required.

Q4: What is the effective detecting width?
A: The effective detecting width is 300 mm.

Q5: What installation distance is required?
A: The transmitter and receiver should be installed 400–1000 mm apart, with at least 200 mm between the steel coil and each sensing unit.

Q6: How is optical-axis alignment performed?
A: Dedicated alignment devices are built into the transmitter and receiver, and the alignment indicators illuminate when the optical axis is correctly aligned.

Q7: How does the SWD55 handle slight lens contamination?
A: The transmitter and receiver circuits provide more than 30 times the operating-level margin, helping maintain detection with minor lens contamination.

Q8: What outputs does the SWD55B controller provide?
A: The controller provides a 1c relay output and an NPN open-collector output.

Q9: Is the output duration adjustable?
A: Yes. The one-shot output duration can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1 second, with a response time of 25 ms or less.

Q10: What applications is the SWD55 designed for?
A: It is designed for weld-point identification on continuous steel processing lines by detecting a punch hole placed at the welded section of the steel coil.
