A: The SWD60 is a punch hole detection sensor for continuously moving steel coils. It detects punch holes placed at welded joints and can distinguish single-hole and double-hole patterns.

A: Yes. One SWD60 system distinguishes single and double punch holes and provides separate control outputs for each result.
Q3: What is the effective detection width?
A: The standard SWD60R receiver provides an effective detection width of 470 mm.
Q4: What is the required transmitter-to-receiver distance?
A: The transmitter and receiver can be installed 250–1000 mm apart, with 500 mm recommended.
Q5: Can the SWD60 be used with steel plate narrower than 470 mm?
A: Yes. The SWD60RE receiver includes an edge-processing function and provides a 390 mm effective detection width during edge processing.
Q6: How is optical alignment checked?
A: During full light reception, receiver gain is reduced to about one-tenth of the normal punch-hole detection level. The safety indicator illuminates when sufficient received-light margin is confirmed.
Q7: What self-check functions does the SWD60 provide?
A: The transmitter monitors light emission, the receiver can be checked by an external signal, and the system monitors received-light margin with independent safety and alarm outputs.
Q8: What outputs does the SWD60B provide?
A: Separate single-hole and double-hole relay and NPN open-collector outputs are provided. Relay response is 30 ms maximum, while NPN response is 3 ms maximum.
Q9: Can the SWD60 operate in high-temperature environments?
A: The transmitter and receiver normally operate from -25 to +55°C. With the optional WJ60E water-cooling jacket, operation is supported up to +80°C. Both sensing units are rated IP66.
Q10: What applications is the SWD60 designed for?
A: It is designed for weld-point identification on continuous steel-strip and steel-coil lines, where single- and double-hole patterns can be used to trigger different downstream process controls.
